In June 2011, Tony’s gambling problem came to light when it was discovered that he had stolen €1.75 million from An Post to fuel his gambling addiction whilst working as a Branch Manager. As a result, he served 3 years in Prison. While serving his sentence he re-educated, re-invented himself and trained as an Addiction Counsellor.

In March 2018, 'Tony10' was published by Gill books. It is co-written by Tony and Declan Lynch.  It tells the story of his gambling addiction, highlighting how a €1 bet led to a turnover of over 10 million in his online account. He hopes that his story will help start a much needed national conversation about Ireland’s gambling problem. His proceeds of the book are going to charity to further help people who are struggling.
